ATTENTION : HnH Field Update

August 23rd, 2011

Do to the extreme drought the surface at the Barton and Jaycee fields is unplayable. The field has developed huge cracks and has been ruled unsafe to play on. The tournament has been moved to the Krieg fields located at 515 S. Pleasant Valley Road Austin, TX 78741.

DIRECTIONS :
Travel to Riverside & I-35.
Go east on Riverside.
After several lights, turn left (north) onto Pleasant Valley.
You will pass through a traffic light at Lakeshore Blvd, and you will eventually see softball fields on your right. This is the Krieg Complex. This is your destination. There will be a sign indicating this. There is also a fireman’s practice tower in the parking lot which you are not likely to miss.
The Krieg Complex is located just south of the river, so if you cross over the river and hit Cesar Chavez/1st Street, then you’ve gone too far.
One thing to keep in mind is that there are two entrances to the complex. If you’re coming up Pleasant Valley from Riverside (ie you are heading north on Pleasant Valley), then the first entrance you come to will be at a traffic light. You should use this entrance if you are going to field 1-5. The second entrance is about 100-200 feet up the road past the light, and is not at an intersection. You should use this entrance if you are going to field 6-11.
The field numbers are on the backstops of the fields, and there are signs within the complex directing you to the individual fields. Still, if you haven’t been here before, leave yourself extra time to find the field you are looking for.

Viva Does College Station

November 23rd, 2010

College Station, TX-Let me just start by quoting a close friend of the club…”I LOVE COLLEGE!” Beautiful College Station was the site of Team Viva’s second tournament, Texas A&M’s 28th Annual Fall Classic. The first tournament of the year was the Hotter n’ Hell Tournament, in Dallas, which became another nice notch in the belt for the club. The weekend of November 13-14 brought Pabst Blue Ribbon Lacrosse Club, San Antiono, Tony’s Tavern and Team Viva together for some good lacrosse and good times.

In Viva’s first game, the opponent drawn was PBR Lax, both teams got off to fast starts until Viva showed their youth and pulled away with a comfortable 12-6 victory. Former Texas A&M heros Brian Moncrief and Greg Pryor were just a couple familiar faces playing for PBR.

After Viva’s impressive opening round victory and a rough 10-0 loss by San Antonio, at the hands of Tony’s Tavern, the two teams met up for their second round match-ups. Unlike the opening round game against PBR, there were no real responses from Viva’s opponent. Suffocating defense from Bryan Just, Dustin Childers and Brian Despain kept things quite down on Viva’s end. Chris Pike, Greg Deeke and Justin “Tweeze” Thomas looked to be in old form picking up right where they left off back in their prime. To put everything together, Nathan Tabb, Steve Bouchard and Jeff “J-Mazz” Mazzolini held it down in the mid-field.

After an amazingly unscathed (for the most part) evening out, Team Viva would play their first round opponents once again, PBR Lax. Once again, Team Viva picked up where they left off and took down PBR to complete the perfect three game weekend and take home the 2010 Texas A&M Fall Classic. Next up for Team Viva will be the 2010 Mardi Gras Lacrosse Tournament in New Orleans, LA.

Until next time, do me a favor and look up the CSPD Jailer that works the Sunday morning shift…you will thank me later!

Hotter ‘N Hell Lacrosse Tournament Recap

August 16th, 2010

The 2010 Annual Hotter N’ Hell Lacrosse Tournament hosted by Team Viva (Texas A&M Alumni) kicked off for the first time in tournament history in Dallas, TX this year. Eight teams participated in this year’s tournament which lived true to its name with consecutive days of triple digit heat. Round one of the tournament saw Big D, Eager Beavers, Donkey Show and Team Viva all advancing with wins. Big D faced off against Eager Beavers while Donkey Show battled tournament host, Team Viva. Both games went to the wire with Eager Beavers and Team Viva advancing to the championship game. In the championship game the score went back and forth for most of the game. Team Viva rallied late in the second half to go up three goals with under five minutes remaining. Not to be outdone, Eager Beavers reeled off three consecutive goals including a buzzer beater to tie the game at the end of regulation. With momentum shifted from one sideline to the other, Team Viva fought hard to stop the Eager Beavers first scoring attempt in overtime and gain possession. Viva never looked back finishing off Eager Beavers with a sick, bang-bang, feed from ‘x’ and a behind the back goal for the game winner. This was the second time in tournament history the host, Team Viva, claimed the crown. The event was a success in its first year held in Dallas. Time will tell where next year’s tournament will be held but one thing is certain…it will be
